YOU'RE AWESOME!

How To Tell If You're Dating Someone Healthy

Dating can be exciting, but it can also be challenging to figure out if someone is right for you. One important factor to consider is whether or not they are emotionally healthy. Here are some signs to watch out for:

Positive Deposits

  • They enjoy spending time with you. This seems like a no-brainer, but it's important to pay attention to how your partner makes you feel. Do they light up when they see you? Do they make an effort to spend quality time with you?
  • They are supportive of your goals and dreams. A healthy partner will be your cheerleader, not your critic. They will want to see you succeed and will be there for you when you need them.
  • They are honest and communicate openly. Trust is essential in any relationship, and honesty is a key part of building trust. A healthy partner will be able to communicate openly and honestly with you, even when it's difficult.

Neutral Deposits

  • They are sometimes moody or withdrawn. We all have our off days, and it's normal for your partner to be moody or withdrawn sometimes. However, if this happens frequently, it could be a sign of deeper issues.
  • They are not always attentive to you. Everyone gets distracted sometimes, but if your partner is constantly checking their phone or ignoring you when you're talking, it could be a sign that they're not very interested in you.
  • They are not very affectionate. Physical touch is an important part of many relationships, but not everyone is equally affectionate. If you need more affection than your partner is willing to give, it could lead to problems down the road.

Negative Deposits

  • They are critical of you or put you down. A healthy partner will build you up, not tear you down. If your partner is constantly criticizing you or making you feel bad about yourself, it's a sign of an unhealthy relationship.
  • They are jealous or possessive. A little bit of jealousy is normal, but if your partner is constantly accusing you of cheating or trying to control your every move, it's a sign of an unhealthy relationship.
  • They are abusive (physically, emotionally, or verbally). Abuse is never okay, and if your partner is abusing you, you need to get help.

Maintaining a Healthy Relationship

If you're already in a relationship, there are things you can do to maintain its health. Here are a few tips:

  • Communicate openly and honestly. Talk to your partner about your needs and feelings, and be willing to listen to theirs.
  • Be supportive of each other. Be there for each other when you're going through tough times, and celebrate each other's successes.
  • Spend quality time together. Make time for each other, even when you're busy.
  • Be respectful of each other. Treat each other with kindness and consideration.

If you're concerned about your relationship, it's always a good idea to talk to a therapist or counselor. They can help you identify any unhealthy patterns and develop strategies for improving your relationship.

Additional Tips

  • Pay attention to your gut instinct. If something feels off, it probably is.
  • Don't ignore red flags. If you see signs of an unhealthy relationship, don't ignore them. Talk to your partner or seek professional help.
  • Remember that you deserve to be in a healthy relationship. Don't settle for anything less.
